Forget for a second the ongoing trend of beauty brands relaunching products in smaller sizes while charging the same price for them (because that’s what’s happening here with the recently relaunched NARS eyeshadow duos and singles), and try instead to focus on the tantalizing taupes, gorgeous golds and beaming bronzes in these NARS eyeshadows, which also happen to be some of my personal faves, oh la la! Nope, I’m not mad about it! MAC’s latest launch of makeup primers is…unsurprisingly, all about primer, and yeah, it’s one of those releases comprised of re-promoted stuff (same products, new boxes). Of course, there will be the usual hemming and hawing about this, but since almost all of the items in Makeup Ready Skin are things I’ve used and loved for years, I repeat: I’m not mad about it. The photograph I’d like to share is a brilliant example of sonoluminescence.  I’ve called this the dancing sulfuric acid bubble and is an example of nonlinear acoustics creating nanosecond flashes of blackbody light emanating from an 8,000K microplasma.  A bubble of xenon gas trapped inside concentrated sulfuric acid undergoes a roller-coaster of growth and collapse from the action of a resonant acoustic field.  An objective (left) focuses a high-intensity laser pulse into the fist-sized quartz resonator and seeds a bubble, which is then pulled into the center of the sphere.  The long camera exposure results in a swirling mass of...

Good morning, sweet girl.
